The Magic of Bears
A benchmark book that entertains, educates, and completely dazzles you with its incredible icon images! A "must-read" for anyone who believes in the magic of bears!

Great new children's book, all about bears!
"Born to be Wild" is an excellent new children's book that people of all ages will enjoy. It is extremely informative while being engaging and interactive at the same time. The excellent organization and amazing photography make it a pleasure to read and accessible to a wide range of readers. Many of the poses in which Mr. Ward has captured the bears are simply delightful. The reader comes away with not only new knowledge, but a greater appreciation of bears.

Born to Be Wild...A "Beary " good book!
Born to Be Wild is a wonderful book for children of all ages. Young children will be entranced by pictures of frolicking polar bear cubs and grizzly bear antics, as they listen to touching stories. What parent or child can resist a tender moment between a mother bear and her cubs?
For the independent reader, this book offers clear narrative and a helpful glossary. The format is interactive, as the authors have not only included substantial information about all kinds of bears, but photo captions that invite young readers to think and reflect.
I have found Born to Be Wild to be an invaluable resource for research projects and quiet reading time in my classroom. My students all fell in love with the endearing tale of Ferosha, an orphaned polar bear cub that makes her way into the author's hearts.
In these days of digitally altered photos and phony news stories, it is refreshing to find these photographers/authors attained all their photos the old-fashioned way: with hard work, dedication and artistic talent. I highly recommend this book to any bear lover, young or old.

Terrific read-aloud
This is a wonderful book! Children and adults alike enjoy the silliness and the repetition. Similar to The Mitten, but lots more fun!

Great book!
We borrowed this book from the library for my 3 1/2 year old daughter. My daughter has now memorized most of the book, and she loves to "read" it to the rest of the family. She laughes the whole way through it, and she actually looks forward to bedtime when the whole family sits down and reads it together. We will definately be adding it to our home library.

SO FUNNY!! WE ALL LAUGHED. FUN TO READ!!
WE BORROWED THIS BOOK FROM THE LIBRARY. THE FIRST OF WABERS BOOKS. I READ IT TO MY 8, 5, AND 4 YEAR OLD. WE ALL LAUGHED AND LAUGHED. FUN TO READ!! I IMMEDIATLY ORDERED TWO, ONE FOR US AND ONE FOR MY NEICES! IT WAS REFRESHING TO READ A CHILDS BOOK THAT EVERYONE ENJOYS. SO MANY BOOKS AND SO FEW GREAT ONES. IT WILL BECOME A FAVORITE IN OUR PERSONAL LIBRARY.

Beauty Within the Beast: Kinship With Bears in the Alaska Wilderness
Published in Paperback by Last Post Press (May, 2002)
Author: Stephen Stringham
Average review score:

Beauty within the beast
As many in this world know, very few will experience the Bear. Dr. Stringham skillfully shares his experience with the Ursus kind in a manner which allows the laymen to touch this creature in the comfort of the armchair.

I have much respect for what Steve has done, both in this book and his career, and hope that my words may spread the message that is contained in this book. I truly know that this will become a classic; in the true spirit of Michio Hoshino...Please write more Steve!

Real Life Adventure
Few of us will ever have the opportunities that Dr. Stringham has had, to live intimately with wild animals on a daily baisis and observe them close at hand. Dr. Stringham has written an enchanting and engaging accout of raising three wild bear cubs in the Alaskan wilderness. Bears have been revealed as intelligent and adaptive creatures who occupy a unique niche in the American wilderness, comparable to the niche primates occupy in Africa. This book is exciting, highly readable and hard to put down. Dr. Stringham is not only a gifted wildlife biologist, but a gifted writer; his descriptions are beautiful. I love this book, as has every other person I know who has had the fortune to read it. Christine Nicolayeff

Kinship with Bears
Beauty, personality, kin, children, learning beings--what a picture of these brown bears we are given, by Dr. Stringham. The previous reviewer (blessed282) has describe the beautiful attributes of this book well. I can only add: It is wonderful. I can't wait for his next one!

The Bike Lesson
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Stan Berenstain and Jan Berenstain
Average review score:

The Lesson Bike
Papa bear teaches Small bear how to get on a bike. Papa bear tells Small bear how to stop. Papa bear tells Small bear how to turn, but Papa bear can not turn right and he flies and fell down. Papa bear helped Small bear for 6 lessons. I like this book because it shows how to ride on a bike.

That's What Not to do Small Bear
This is a wonderful book. My mom used to read this to my brother nearly 25 years ago, and he loved it. I later got that copy and have always enjoyed it. I'm only 15, but I know a good book when i read one. Whenever I make a mistake, my mom says "and that's what NOT to do small bear", because of Papa Bear's line on most of the pages in this book and other older Berenstain Bear books. Readin this book is "What TO do small bear!"

That Papa Bear's Done It Again!
Oh, that Papa Bear! He just can't help himself! He just has to "help" his son. My son loved this book 30 years ago. Again and again. So wonderful it is still in print. His son will love those rascals just as much, and my son will love reading it-again and again.

The Bonsai Bear
Published in Hardcover by Illumination Arts (01 September, 1999)
Authors: Bernard Libster, Aries Cheung, and Aries Cheung
Average review score:

I found myself captivated
Issa is the greatest bonsai master in all of Japan who shapes and sculpts trees to remain small no matter what their age. His wife, Kyomi, is an artist who makes beautiful paper birds and paints pictures of mountains and streams. The couple are without children, but are very loving and nurturing people. A friend brings a baby bear to them, whose mother has been found dead, to nurture and raise until it is old enough to take care of itself. The Japanese Emperor has forbidden anyone to keep wild animals in his kingdom.

Issa's selfish desire to love and keep the bear forever takes over as he plans how to keep the bear from growing. He disguises the bear, Doukeshi, using his tree sculpting techniques, to keep it from growing and to keep him from being reported to the Emperor. His plan works very well until Issa begins to realize that what he is doing to the bear is not what's best for any of them.

There is a great lesson in this book to be learned by both children and adults alike. This story helps parents and guardians to understand the importance of loving, but letting our children grow into the unique person they should be. It teaches the child to love who they are and not forget the special role they have to play in the grand scheme of creation.

The Bonsai Bear is full of pleasure whether it is read by children or adults. I found myself captivated. The author, Bernard Libster, weaves a wonderful tale full of suspense and wonder. His writing flows fluidly and easily along, capturing the reader more and more as you are drawn deeper into the pages. You become one with each of the main characters and the situation they find themselves in. The illustrator, Aries Cheung, captures the characters vividly on the pages to help bring life and substance to each. The illustrations are extremely colorful, well done and full of imagination, giving one a taste of life in Japan.

pure magic
This delightful children's story, The Bonsai Bear, is pure magic. A lesson for young and old alike. The Bonsai Bear tells the tale of a creative Japanese couple. The wife is a painter and weaver. The husband is the finest bonsai artist in all of Japan. He is very skilled in binding and training trees to stay small and grow in a dish instead of the wild. The couple's lives are filled with beauty, yet they are missing the joys of parenthood. One day, an orphaned bear cub finds its way to the couple's home. Here the story becomes a parable for how to nurture and parent without "stunting the growth" of your offspring. Dream messages and honest self-evaluation help the husband to see that "bears are not trees," Plants and trees are content to stay in one place. Bears (like children) need to be able to run and go wherever their heart takes them. The author, Bernard Libster, is a man of many talents. He is inspired by Japanese poets and children's writer Gianni Rodan. The talented young illustrator, Aries Cheung, renders The Bonsai Bear in gorgeous watercolors. Make The Bonsai Bear a cherished gift for your own young ones.

A beautiful, touching tale
This story of a well meaning bonsai artist who wants to keep an orphan bear small using bonsai techniques is very well written and moving. The conflict between wanting to control, but recognizing that it's necessary to allow growth and development is central to the story. It is beautifully done, and the illustrations are perfect for the story.

Bunky's Adventure at Sea

Author: Lisa Osborne-Stem
Average review score:

Book Review
Bunky is a sailor who is curious and eager to explore the high sea.A child who readsthis book is given hope that they are never alone. It also gives children the courage toexplore not only the sea but life itself.

Educational...and entertaining
I purchased a book for my grandchild on the recommendation of a friend. As I was reading,I found myself getting totally involved in the story.. and disappointed that it ended so soon! I found Mizar delightful and entertaining as he helped poor Bunky through his "misadventure". Afterward, we colored in the book... our own visions of the story. I am looking forward to the next "star story" and Mizar's next adventure. The only problem I see with the book, is that my grandchild and her friends are in love with Mizar and want him! I am looking to see if there are any toys out yet, as the character Mizar is so lovable we all want to be his... Special Friend!

Great story and learning tool for children
If you're looking for a book to keep your child's interest and learn something from it, this is the one. It shows the children that taking things upon themselves without help or guidence could be dangerous but when thought out properly and discussed with others, could turn out to be a great experience. This could also interest the children by wanting to learn more about the stars

Cafe Beaujolais
Published in Paperback by Ten Speed Press (May, 1985)
Authors: Margaret S. Fox and John Bear
Average review score:

yummmmmy
The recipes in this book are great, especially the tomato soup and chicken salad (Chinese). I really liked the simple way in which they were written and the use of readily available ingredients. My favorite part of the book was all the minutae about the restaurant itself. From starting a restaurant, to running it, to buying provisions, to personnel, the book was a fascinating inside look at the business of food. The authors never complained, but they made me realize what a tough business they are in. Hope I can visit Cafe Beaujolais sometime.

My favorite cookbook on the shelf!
I spent a lovely weekend on the coast and happened upon CAFE BEAUJOLAIS. After a splended meal, I purchased an autographed copy of this book. The recipes are all easy to follow and each have a history or source. Her spicy buttermilk coffee cake is to die for! Ms. Fox speaks of her cookbook collection and how she "looks up" the same recipe in many different cookbooks. This is where I first understood the concept of recipe comparing. I also enjoyed reading about the goings-on in her resturant. This is a fabulous book!

I've worn out my first copy of cafe beaujolais
This is my one book that i go to again, and again and again. Everything in it from Chinese Chicken Salad to Mom's Banana Cake is scrumptious. It's hard to say what is my favorite - I guess they all are. You are missing out if you don't have this book. You won't be sorry; not to mention that simple instructions, simple ingredients, wonderful for the novice cook and then some. ENJOY!

The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble With Friends
This book is good for the age rage from 3-6 years, who are just making friends at school and in their neighboorhood.
Sister bear has Lizzy move in next door and they become friends, and learn that sometimes friends have fights, but that a friend is good to have despite their differences.
This book teaches kids that even when friends have differences and fights they need to overcome their differences and still be friends.

End of a friendship?
When Sister and Lizzy get into a fight what is Sister to do?

This book teachs kids that all friends have fights and that you sould always try to make-up in the end. It is a great book

The BerenstainBears Trouble with Freinds Review
I gave this book a 5 star review because it teaches children that arguing and fighting is not the way to solve your probleems you have to talk through them. This book also has a lot of pictures that kids would like.
